Hello, I'm Hannah, a leadership and career coach working with people in the private and public sectors. I've spent much of my twenty plus years of working life in London and now live near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands where I enjoy running (fairly slowly) amidst the local landscape.
I started HM Coaching and Development in 2020. Like others, the pandemic brought a shifting of perspective and priorities and I realised this was a route that brought together the breadth of my skills and expertise. Presently, I work locally and nationally (sometimes further) with clients from a range of backgrounds and working environments.
Developing agendas for individual, organisational, and social transformation
My interests lie especially with working with people and organisations to bring positive change to the systems and structures that surround us. Of course this also means that personal self-reflection and requisite action are central and interconnected parts of this process too.
I particularly love to engage with people one-on-one and my strength lies in helping others to think strategically and holistically about their situations and contexts. This draws on my academic work in the area of hermeneutics (the science of interpretation) and practical application of those principles. I've shifted career paths twice, spending most time in corporate and higher education environments. I understand well the journey of transition—of growing, realigning, and ultimately transforming into fresh shapes that fit and move with the transfiguring ecosystems around us. Transition can be beautiful but it is never easy.
The RSA: I am also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (the RSA). It is an honour to be a Fellow and share in the RSA's commitment to finding better ways of thinking, acting, and delivering change in society today.
The Cadbury Centre: My academic training was in Christian theology and I am an Honorary Fellow of the Edward Cadbury Centre for the Public Understanding of Religion, University of Birmingham. Similarly to the RSA, the Cadbury Centre is committed to developing agendas for social transformation. Sharing this commitment, I work with them on projects that support my coaching work. These include values-based leadership and organisational theology projects. For more on my academic work, see research and book.
Corporate underpinnings: My career began with a decade in central London working in marketing communications and business and people development. I was part of the business development and talent management team at the global marketing communications group, DAS Global (Omnicom), and marketing manager at the advertising agency, Claydon Heeley. As such, I am particularly familiar with networks, both from parent company and subsidiary vantage points.
